By using James Howard Home Inspection & Consulting, you benefit from the home building and inspection experience of the owner. This is not a multi-inspector firm or a franchise. James Howard performs all inspections, writes all reports, and answers his own phone. Mr. Howard entered the home inspection industry in 1994 with a solid background in home building, additions, renovation, and repair. In 2000, the construction side of his business was set aside so as to devote full time to inspection and consulting.

We encourage your presence during the inspection. By being present at the inspection, Mr. Howard can familiarize you with the home, explain things, and answer any questions or concerns as the inspection progresses.

Home inspectors are bound to a strict code of ethics, and the North Carolina Home Inspector Licensure Board Standards of Practice. This ensures quality service while providing important protections. For example, we work exclusively for the client, keep the report confidential so it can only be shared/discussed with the client’s permission, and not perform repairs on any home that’s inspected.

A personal note from James Howard

Over a relatively short span of time, the home buying public invented the home inspection industry. Buyers began to insist on acquiring a better understanding of the property upon which to base the expenditure of such a large amount of money. With varying degrees of success, buyers began to seek out knowledgeable people in the home building industry to protect their physical and financial safety. What makes a good home inspector? I think at the base of it all, it could be just a good old-fashioned sense of curiosity. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to have a heightened awareness of detail, and layers upon layers of experience with thousands of houses, but curiosity is the base. I believe that consumers have the right to expect the highest standards of thoroughness, fairness, and effectiveness from their home inspector.
